About Us

At Parkside Grove, we pride ourselves on creating a nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for all tamariki. Our approach is guided by the principles and strands of Te Whāriki, where every child is viewed as a capable and unique learner. We work closely with our whānau to create meaningful learning experiences that reflect the values and aspirations of our community.

We are committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, supporting our tamariki to develop a strong sense of identity, belonging, and understanding of Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa. Our kaiako intentionally promote mana-enhancing interactions and learning experiences that acknowledge cultural diversity and celebrate what is important to our whānau and tamariki.

Our Values

Whanaungatanga – Relationships

Respectful, reciprocal relationships are at the heart of who we are. Our transitions in, within, and out of Parkside Grove reflect our strong belief in connection, communication, and supporting the learning journey of every tamaiti. Individual learning plans guide each child’s progress and ensure that learning is personal, collaborative, and meaningful.

Manaakitanga – Care & Kindness

We foster kindness, empathy, and respect through every interaction. Our programme highlights emotional and social competence through intentional experiences that promote inclusion and collaboration. Kaiako and tamariki work together to care for people, places, and our environment, embracing the values and cultures represented within our community.

Kaitiakitanga – Independence & Participation

We believe that every child is a capable learner with their own strengths to contribute to the world. Our kaiako support tamariki to develop confidence, independence, oral language skills, resilience, and a love for learning that prepares them for future success. Literacy and numeracy are woven naturally into our discovery programme and everyday interactions.

Our Programme in Action

We celebrate learning through rich, real-life experiences that bring our values to life:

  • Toothbrushing Programme – In partnership with WAVE South Canterbury, tamariki brush their teeth daily with their friends, building healthy habits while having fun.
  • Kindness Kevin & the Colour Monsters – These special characters help our tamariki understand emotions and develop social competence in playful and meaningful ways.
  • Lilliput Library – Our very own little library encourages whānau and tamariki to explore literacy together and build oral language skills.
  • Excursions to the Park – We are lucky to have a beautiful park right next door, acting as an extension of our learning environment. Regular outings support exploration, physical activity, and community engagement.
  • Community Involvement – We proudly take part in events such as the Flava Festival and invite guests to connect with our tamariki through music, storytelling, movement, and special celebrations.
