Philosophy

At Parkside Grove we embed the principles and strands of Te Whāriki into our programme where we acknowledge and celebrate every step towards achieving success for our learners. We have a strong emphasis on working together in collaboration with our whānau to create positive learning experiences that promote and nurture the uniqueness of our tamariki. We acknowledge Te Tiriti O Waitangi and turangawaewae through our commitment to supporting our tamariki to develop their awareness of Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa. We view all tamariki as capable learners and create a learning environment that is mana enhancing and enables a strong sense of belonging.

Whanaungatanga – Relationships

Respectful and reciprocal relationships enable us to create an environment where our tamariki, whānau and kaiako feel connected, secure, comfortable and happy. Our transitions in, within and out of our learning environment reflect our strong approach to whanaungatanga and the impact that it has on learning and achieving success. We work together through having regular communication about tamariki learning through our individual learning plans that are unique to each tamaiti and guide their learning journey.

Manaakitanga – Respect, kindness, and caring for each other and the environment around us

Our kaiako encourage kindness and respect through every interaction with tamariki, whānau and one another. Our learning environment encompasses the concept of tuakana teina and opportunities for this are evident through the way our kaiako and tamariki care for each other and the environment around us. The development of emotional competence and social competence alongside inclusion is highlighted throughout our programme through our intentional experiences that encourage interaction and collaboration. We support tamariki to develop and display aroha, empathy and compassion for people, places and things in their world. We acknowledge, celebrate and respect the cultural diversity within our community through embracing what is important to our whānau and our tamariki and incorporating that into our learning environment.

Kaitiakitanga – Independence, participation, and creating and safe guarding the future

Our kaiako view all tamariki as capable learners. We support tamariki to develop a sense of agency for their learning and knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society. We have a strong belief in supporting tamariki to achieve success and to be independent and be able to participate in the wider world around them. We are proactive with our approach to ensuring success for every learner by having effective monitoring processes in place for tamariki to enable us to provide meaningful and mana enhancing support when needed. We promote oral language development through our intentional interactions and experiences that are guided from evidence based research on the importance of developing communication skills in the early years. We encourage our tamariki to develop resilience and the awareness to recognise and appreciate their ability to learn. We incorporate the concepts of literacy and numeracy learning into our daily programme through our discovery programme and through engaging experiences and our communication with tamariki. We encourage our tamariki to develop a love for learning that will help guide them in their future endeavours.

We are proud of what we do here at Parkside Grove! We invite you to come and visit us and experience the place where we love to be!
